Driver session
The driver is the club where small changes in launch conditions are easiest to see and easiest to misread.
What we record
Ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry and total distance, plus the dispersion pattern on a plot. We take at least ten shots with each configuration before drawing a conclusion.
What we change
- Head loft in half-degree steps
- Shaft weight, in grams
- Shaft bend profile
- Length to the quarter inch
- Face angle where the head allows it
How we decide
We recommend a change only when it improves carry or tightens dispersion across a majority of the shots, not when a single swing looks good. Sometimes the answer is that your current driver is right.
